Why Nextdoor is especially toxic.
I do not advocate for any social media platform. They obviously extract and amplify the worst in human nature.
One website stands head and shoulders above the rest in the cesspool of digital pits — Nextdoor. And it dawned on me recently why it is so much worse.
Other platforms have in some fashion a way for users to build their own network, and their is a bit of a social safety net here. If you suck a lot, you’re going to have less friends on Facebook. If you don’t have anything meaningful to contribute there, no one will follow you on Twitter.
But on Nextdoor, no one needs your permission. If you live in the same neighborhood, someone who needs an outlet to spew will do so all over you, even if you’ve never met them before.
