What Self-Storage Says about Us
The self-storage industry isn’t something I’ve given too much thought to. Sure there are edge cases — displaced folks needing to stash belongings in an interim period, small businesses growing with a need for extra space before they can afford to buy or lease more property…
In essence, though, it’s pretty basic math:
People have more stuff than they can fit in their life.
This is really what it comes down to. We have this strange situation going on where people are convinced to buy more crap than they are able to contain, and then sold an expensive concrete box space to store it in.
You may be able to rent a spot to put all that junk away from you, but it will still be living rent-free in your mind.
