I’ve been wearing glasses since the third grade. The optometrist said, “he’s as blind as a bat.” I must have been pretty good at guessing what I was looking at (and squinting does actually help).

It was a magical moment putting that first pair on, and seeing everything so crisp and clear.

I’ve never had prescription sunglasses, though. I keep contacts handy for when it rains, because water on my lenses drives me crazy. I’ve worn sunglasses with contacts from time to time, but they are uncomfortable, and I’m terrible at taking them out. So I don’t use them for much more than a bad weather option.

Always outside, I felt it was time to finally give corrective shades a try. My new pair came in last Friday. Saturday was a funeral. Bellefontaine Cemetary was gorgeous, it was full sun and bloom during the burial. It was wonderful to have my lenses automatically darken. I felt more present. Driving, I seem more relaxed and less road rage-y.

Little things can make a big difference.
