Slog is not Waste
Over the last two days, I spent a handful of hours trying to get a trivial styling detail right — centering images within a grid on our website. As frustration mounted, and time went on, eventually I remembered one of my first lessons when starting to dabble with code, inspected a little closer, and fixed the issue.
Beth has been working on a mailer today and yesterday, and without professional training or tools, getting the post office prescribed address and postage boxes pixel-perfect has been an impossible exercise of futility. Eventually we realized there’s a reason why people just leave more room for the printer, she enlarged the space for those elements, and it looks great.
It’s tough work, but when you trudge through lessons you know how to knock it out next time, and intimately for having made the investment and connected dots all along. Also, learning the hard way exercises the figuring-things-out muscles, so you’ll be better prepared for the next challenge.
