Learn like a baby

Want to be a super-learner? Life’s short, and cool skills and knowledge abound.

Take a lesson from the greatest learners — babies.

Scientists theorize babies have IQ’s around 400. In about a year they’re able to walk, talk, associate with the world, all without any associations whatsoever.

Observing my own son growing through these stages, one impressive quality sticks out. He delights in any new thing he encounters. His face lights up and he immerses himself in the new object. Whether is the different sound when hitting two things together, or twisting something around to calibrate the weight distribution of a tool I let him check out.

The surprise & wonder is his linchpin, and we’d do well to keep those qualities alive as we explore the world ourselves.
