A friend, who’s worked at the same company since high school, commended me on risking and running a business.

It definitely takes sacrifice to get something new off the ground. And you don’t know if people are going to want what you’re offering, enough to keep you fed. There are a lot of unknowns when you’re starting out.

But I’d argue that working for someone else requires a lot more faith. You are counting on them to make the right decisions to keep things rolling. Any day, they could decide you’re not worth keeping.

Leading a small business, you can pivot to meet challenges. Change hours, hire help, and adjust availability to match demand. Its fate, and yours, are in your hands.
