I Love Problems

Solving them, at least…

This likely explains in large part my passion for sustainable agriculture, and for the renewal of North City St. Louis.

The 20th century saw the abandonment of both natural systems of growing food, and the urban fabric that evolved with us since the beginning of human history. That didn’t turn out so well — our collective human health, the impact on our natural environment, and the condition of our cities show it.

As we work on our farm, nearly every day challenges arise from decades of mistreatment. Compacted soil, buried bricks and foundation, lack of windbreaks because both buildings and large trees have been cleared and not replaced. We get to devise solution, repair damage, and with daily care we are witnessing a positive feedback loop on our land, which is thoroughly satisfying.
