As a new father, I’ve been meditating quite a bit lately on humanity.
Completely dependent on our parents for years and years, more than any other creature, and then in maturity we dominate the planet.
We are some enigma…
Our physical capabilities carry similar irony. Our bodies are relatively unequipped for life. Imagine a man without clothes, fingernails untrimmed, hair completely grown out, attempting to survive by scavenging food with nothing other than his bare hands and only his teeth for tearing.
Yet combining fire and technology, each generation brings about new powers unimaginable by the one preceding it. In just several thousand years, this soft-bodied creature accomplished feats ranging from cracking wheat to splitting the atom. But take away our thumbs and we’d starve to death…
