Don’t Sleep With Knives
This actually isn’t about safety.
Sometimes I fall asleep with my clothes on. Sometimes I still have stuff in my pockets. I carry a pocket knife daily, it’s an essential tool for me. Somehow, twice, my daily carry worked its way out of my pocket, opened, and cut a hole in our sheets.
We like our flannel sheets. They’re not fancy, but they are wonderfully comfy. We also hate wasting things. The first time this happened, my wife kindly applied one of my favorite products, Tear Mender, to the slit. Does it look good? No, who cares. Did it fix the problem? Yep.
The second time, though, she didn’t help out. Later she revealed to me she was resentful that I managed to do this again and decided to leave it. I didn’t do anything about it, either. So, it worked its way into a three rips totaling more than a couple feet in length.
I finally decided to put and end to the mess. I stitched it all together, and reinforced it with the aforementioned magic fabric glue at the ends, here and there along the seams, and at the confluence. It looks terrible, Beth says it “looks like a butt-hole.” It also took way too much time to fix.
This isn’t a safety advisory about the danger and responsibility of carrying sharp knives.
My takeaway: it’s better to handle an issue right away while it’s small.
Also, Tear Mender is awesome.
