Capitalism, the virtuous common denominator
This morning, starting my day out packing eggs and listening to Seth Godin, a recent Akimbo podcast really got me thinking.
Day Trading and Patient Capital speaks my language. I would summarize it with this question: Are you going to be a money changer, or will you change the world?
He references the legendary Zig Ziglar’s tagline, “You can get everything in life you want if you will just help other people get what they want.” Seth takes this for a neat spin by saying to, “just help other people get what they want.”
This is a great way to approach the world. What it made me consider is how, in a simple, unfettered, and direct market — me selling eggs to my neighbor, and turning around and paying for new slate on my roof — you are getting what you want by giving them what they want.
There’s no lag, not waiting for your goodwill to materialize! You recognize what others want, you got get it for them, and they give you some dough. Instant karma!
